What to share about your car key

Transponder car key with a black plastic head

Start with the vehicle

Share the year, make and model; the vehicle finder uses public NHTSA listings to narrow down the model, but it does not verify key compatibility or identify an exact part

Describe the key you have

Say whether it is a plain metal key, a transponder key, a remote-head key, a separate fob or a smart key; if you are unsure, describe its buttons, blade and how the vehicle starts

Explain what changed: the key is missing, the vehicle no longer recognizes it, or the remote buttons stopped responding; mention whether any other key still works

Include the service location

Share the city or ZIP code where the vehicle is located and a phone number where you can be reached; use the service request form or call to discuss the vehicle and key details
